Riding in the Valleys

Last weekend I headed out to Powys county, Wales for a short break with the family. In between the dog walking and dad duty I was able to get out on the bike. Mid Wales is a rugged landscape, scattered with bald hills, sheep and lots of winding roads. According to Wikipedia its known as the Green Desert, scarcely populated etc. Even though my ride was relatively short I didn't have to go far to find stunning first class roads. Especially the roads winding up the Ellan Valley which follow the banks of the reservoirs on a steady ten mile climb climaxing on a steeper climb with actual hair pins which lift you out of the valley and spits you out onto a long fast descent which takes you back to town. You can get out to this riding in less than four hours from London! And the riding really is in a class of its own!
