Tokyo Fixed: Box Hill Group Ride - 8th July

Find more Bike Ride in Epsom, United Kingdom
We've been saying for a while that we would like to be getting out and doing more rides with friends of the shop. Finally I'm getting off my arse and organizing one. This is a variation of a ride I'v been doing recently in the Surrey Hills. It includes a lap of Box Hill, the highlight of the Olympic Road Race. It also includes a couple of short steep climbs deeper in the Surrey Hills, all on quite country roads.

When & Where: Sunday 8th July. Meet 08.45am at London Victoria. 45min train to Epsom. 76.2km ride finishing at Dorking where trains leave for London Victoria every hour.

We strongly recommend road bikes only. We will be organizing a group track bike ride very soon.

All are welcome. Please e-mail to confirm.

Out riding with Max B and his new Explorateur

Yesterday I joined Max Broby and others for a ride in the Chilterns. Max was out with his new British made Explorateur, which boasts lightweight steel tubing, integrated headset, disc compatibility and the Ritchey breakaway system. This bike is a real head turner. These bikes are currently available through Max B, contact us and we can put you in touch.

Philosophy 2012 Bags Online

"Philosophy Bag Co: Made in the USA paying living wages… not minimum wages. Our focus: Better Bags not More Bags."

Philosophy's 2012 bags are looking very fine. This years range is constructed with a heavy wax fabric. Water or oil will not penetrate or stain any of their bags. The bags feature stainless steel buckles and leather embossed straps showing the high quality you can expect from a Philosophy. But the Philophys aren't about fancy features, what you get is a American made hard wearing bag which actually gets better with age.

Cherubim Piuma Delivery

We received two stunning Cherubim Piuma's this week. We don't get to see so many of these so the sight of two coming through the doors in one week got us pretty excited. Both customers chose great colours and didn't spare on the chrome. I'm sure these bikes will be getting some serious attention this Summer. More photos here

Special Project - Union Cycles

Union Bikes are designed by Tokyo Fixed and manufactured in the UK. The frames are manufactured by Tom Donhou and associates and painted in the Donhou paint shop.
One day we would love to launch Union cycles as a proudly British cycle brand producing fast bikes from the finest materials but today Union is still in the exploration stages. Although if your looking for something special we could be urged to make a Union happen for you.

The Seabase CX Racer was built up for Swiss rider Patrick Seabase to battle the muddy mountains one gear. Columbus Spirit with custom crucifix dropouts.

The Single Speed Racer was built for Bespoked Bristol. The frame is built with Columbus Spirit / Enve fork.

Jacob & Marcus in Athens

Congratulations to team riders Jacob & Marcus who both got top ten results in the 1896 Classic Revival Race out in Athens. Marcus came 5th and Jacob came 8th. More on this to come.

Proper ride on the Road Rocket

I was able to take the Road Rocket into the Surrey Hills this weekend. The bike exceeded my expectations. I was initially concerned that the frame would be a a bit harsh for me but this was not the case. The steel provides a smooth ride and stays super steady on climbs. But without a doubt the best feature of the frame is the stiffness. When you put the power down the frame reacts like a chunky carbon frame. And by chunky carbon frame I mean very little flex and lots of speed. But its not a chunky carbon frame, its steel, and the steel steers and handles so well at speed. The Road Rocket is a no compromise road frame and I will not be returning to my Colnago C40 for a while.

New In: H+Son Archetype Rims. 50% Off Archetype Wheelbuild Labour while stocks last!

We've been excited about these rims. They look great, a real stealthy look which will look good on road and track bikes. The painted machined sidewalls will look especially good on your road bike, giving it that black on black carbon wheel look.
The rim is 23mm wide allowing a low and wide profile for smooth and comfortable rolling at lower psi. And at 450g these are sure to be a good choice for those looking for a rim for a strong and possibly light road wheelset.

We will be offering half price wheel building labour on any custom Archetype wheel build as long as stocks last.

Get yours here.

New to Tokyo Fixed: Enigma Cycles

I have done a few previous posts on Enigma Cycles but wanted to officially announce that we are now a bonafide Enigma Cycles stockist. Which would make us Enigma's first central London stockist.
Enigma cycles produce hand made steel and titanium frames in the UK. They keep stock models on most frames but can also build custom. Read more here

Product reviews: Velocity A23 Rims and Rivendell Jack Brown Tyres

Building up my lastest Surly has given me a chance to use 2 of my favorite products we stock in the shop, the awesome A23 from Velocity and Rivendell's Jack Brown Tyres.

Lets start with the rims. I've been rolling on these on my monster track bike for months, and the new Crosscheck was also begging for pair. Velocity's A23 has that oh-so-trendy 23mm width that opens out narrower race tyres to a more tub-like profile allowing for a smoother ride and better cornering characteristics (and supports the fatter rando tyres on my Surly perfectly). Available in both machined and non-machined versions and weighing in at a staggeringly light 426g a rim they'll be my hoop of choice for years I'm sure. And you know what the best bit is? They're less than £50! Available here

Next up we're on to these American designed, Japanese made tanwall tyres from Rivendell. If you're as avid a reader of Bicycle Quarterly as I am (and you should be), you'll already know wide low pressure tyres roll just as fast as skinny rock-hard ones on smooth surfaces, and much faster on the rough. The supple sidewalls soak up road noise and keep your energy input moving you forwards, and my extensive cornering tests have been more than matched by the tread on these Jack Browns. Amazing, amazing tyre. Available here
